We took a few guests to Wild Florida, as they wanted to experience 'real Florida,' and found ourselves amazed by this outstanding attraction.
We were greeted by the owner, Sam Haught, who obviously has such a genuine passion for his business he can't help but get excited when sharing the different aspects they offer. We started the day with an exhilarating air boat ride across Lake Cypress where we saw an abundance of wildlife including alligators of every size. Sam made several stops where he would share his wealth of knowledge about the wildlife, landscape and Florida history.
When we returned to the boat dock, we thought that was the end of our tour, but we couldn't have been more wrong. Sam lead us to the newly constructed boardwalk which winds around the trees across the swamp. The temperature drops dramatically as you get further into the swamp, but you can observe nature just as it should be. We then followed Sam into the wildlife park where they have rescued alligators that would have otherwise been euthanized for causing a nuisance in residential communities. It's a great opportunity to get very close to some huge beasts. Wandering through the wildlife park we were impressed by the different animals including zebras, emus, monkeys, parrots, bobcats and sloths. One of the park's biggest boasts is that they have recently bred a baby sloth, apparently very rare in captivity. There are great opportunities for hands on and interactive experiences with many animals throughout the park.
We then enjoyed a great BBQ lunch under the shaded pavilion though there were other options like picnic benches in the sunshine or in the purpose built ball room. This place has everything and more!
